The AP All-State Team was announced on Christmas Day with Calhoun and Gordon Central each having First-Team selections.
On the Class AAA Team, Gordon Central’s Chandler Curtis was named to the First Team as a kick returner. His teammate DJ Prather was a Second Team tight end. Tyshaun Clemmons was an Honorable Mention selection .
In Class AA, Calhoun had four First Team selections. Quarterback Taylor Lamb, receiver Josh Barnes and offensive lineman Katrova Dew were all named to the First Team Offense, and defensive back Donnell Anthony was named to the First Team Defense.
Defensive lineman Hunter Padgett was selected to the Second Team defense, and Tydus Curtis and Alex Urbano were Honorable Mention.
The AJC All-State Team was also announced in the last couple weeks with more locals being honored.
In Class AA, Lamb and Curtis were each named to the First Team Offense. Urbano, Barnes and Dew were all given Honorable Mention acknowledgement.
Gordon Central’s Clemmons and quarterback MJ Reynolds were each Honorable Mention selections for Class AAA.
Last Sunday, the Rome News-Tribune announced their All-Area Team with yet even more local selections.
Calhoun’s Lamb was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year along with Cedartown’s Nick Chubb, and Anthony was the Defensive Player of the Year.
Locals selected to the First Team Offense along with Lamb were Calhoun’s Barnes, Curtis, and Urbano and Gordon Central’s Clemmons and Reynolds.
Second Team Offensive selections included Gordon Central’s Curtis and receiver Bryan Brookshire, Calhoun’s Dew and kicker Jonah Gallman and Sonoraville’s quarterback/defensive end Tyler Harris and running back Jackson Murray.
First-Team Defensive selections along with Anthony included Calhoun’s Padgett, linebacker Jackson Brumlow, linebacker Will Conley and defensive back Carter Edwards, Gordon Central’s Prather at defensive lineman, defensive lineman Eric Smith and defensive lineman LaRons Winston.
Second Team honorees were Gordon Central linebackers Mauria Coria and Nate Mays and Calhoun defensive lineman Sebastian Willer and punter Zane Rhodes.
Sonoraville’s Chris Baker and Hunter Blalock were named to Honorable Mention on offense, and Gordon Central’s Brandon Paradise was an Honorable Mention defensive pick.
These honors come after Lamb was already named the Gatorade Georgia Player of the Year and also the Calhoun Times All-County Offensive Player of the Year.
Lamb led the Jackets to a 14-1 record this season, coming up just one game short of a second straight state title in Class AA.
Gordon Central also made a playoff appearrance in 2012, their second straight, as they fell in the first round to Morgan County in Class AAA.
