An Adairsville man remains in jail Monday, Jan. 17, after police say he ran from a Floyd County police officer before threatening to slit the officer’s throat and eventually punching another cop in the face, reports state.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Todd Alan McBurnett, 37, 184 Woody Road, Adairsville, was clocked going 73 miles per hour in a 55 zone on Highway 140 Sunday evening. When the officer tried to pull over the car McBurnett was driving, the suspect sped up, driving a half-mile across the county line and into Bartow.

When McBurnett did finally pull over he refused to exit the vehicle and the officer said he had to point his gun at McBurnett.

The suspect was eventually arrested after refusing a roadside sobriety test.

“If I were an outlaw I would slit your throat,” McBurnett reportedly told the officer while in transit to the Floyd County jail.

Once at the jail McBurnett refused to walk through the metal detector and when he became agitated with police he punched an officer in the face. McBurnett later had to be subdued using a police issued taser.

He was charged with four felonies, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possession of less than one ounce marijuana, obstructing law enforcement and speeding. He was also charged with three felonies, fleeing or attempting to elude police, terroristic threats and acts, obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers.
