According to authorities, the traffic at State Route 53 at Sonoraville has been reduced to one lane and delays are expected.

Adairsville Police Chief Robert Jones is asking the public to stay out of the 2 mile path of wreckage left by a tornado on Wednesday.

Crews are working to clear up the debris left by the storm today. Adairsville Mayor Evan King said the city is in touch with the Georgia Department of Labor in an attempt to find work for those recently employed at a virtually destroyed Daiki plant.

One fatality has been reported in Adairsville and eight injuries so far in Gordon County.

Law enforcement officials have announced the areas impacted by the tornado are still in hazardous condition, which may remain for several days and/or weeks. Areas include Sonoraville, Farmville, Plainview, Cash, Dews Pond, and McGill Mountain.

Love Bridge Rd., Sam Hunt Rd., and Knight Rd remain CLOSED due to flooding.

Periodic closures of Booneford Rd. and Dews Pond Rd. will result as crews continue to restore power to residents in the area. Also, some traffic congestion is still possible on Fairmount Hwy 53 near the Farmville community due to restoration of utilities.

Danger still persists in the area in the form of debris, fallen trees, and downed power lines. Motorists are urged to be aware of these obstacles especially at night.

Citizens are urged to avoid the storm affected areas. Contractors are required to obtain a 'Temporary Contractors Permit' from the County government before working or soliciting in the storm affected areas. These permits are available at Fire Station 1 Headquarters at 400 Belwood Road in Calhoun. Contractors applying for these temporary permits must provide a copy of their business license and proof of insurance. Law enforcement officers will inspect permits as needed in the storm affected areas.

Residents should be wary of contractors who do not have the County issued permit.

Residents displaced by the storm can call 706.879.2850 for assistance in locating temporary shelter.

Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Red Bud and Belmont Baptist Church have both opened and are serving hot meals to anyone in need.

Emergency operations are continuing today and a curfew in the storm affected areas during the hours of darkness will remain in effect.

State and local law enforcement officers have been deployed in all of the damaged areas, and will assist other public safety personnel with search and rescue as needed, and will continue to contain and control traffic and deter any illegal activity.

According to North Georgia EMC as of 5 p.m. Friday, power has been restored to all but approximately 150 residents in Gordon County.

Power is expected to be completely restored to all customers in the area by this evening according the Paul Ruud, NGEMC Vice President of Engineering and Operations.

NGEMC released the following information in a press release:

· As lines are repaired, customers with electricity may experience brief power interruptions while line feeds are switched back to normal.   Isolated outages may continue in areas where lines are less accessible or in situations involving homes with structural damage.
