Police officers from the Calhoun Police Department’s special operations unit and detectives from the Sheriff’s Office drug task force executed a search warrant at 131

Jackson Drive in the Resaca Community June 16.

The warrant was for the seizure of marijuana.

Officers arrested Herman Lamar Southerland, 54, of Resaca; Florene Nicholson, 50, of Resaca; and Kenneth York, 44, of Calhoun.

The officers searched the residence and found over 100 pounds of processed marijuana, scales, financial records, weapons, and more than $5,000 in cash. One of the weapons was a home made “zip” gun, characterized as extremely dangerous by the detectives.

The officers seized five automobiles and a boat, as well as other assets believed to have been generated through the trafficking of marijuana.

The arrest was the result of an investigation spanning several months, and involving officers from both agencies.

The chief of police and the sheriff both commended all of the officers involved in this case for their exemplary police work.
