LAWRENCEVILLE — Authorities say a University of Georgia student who had been reported missing was found dead inside a wrecked car between Athens and Atlanta.

Police say 22-year-old Quinton Ayers, a 2008 graduate of Adairsville High School, was reported missing on Friday. His body was found Monday inside the car along Ga. 316 near Harbins Road.

Gwinnett County police Cpl. Jake Smith told the Gwinnett Daily Post that Ayers’ vehicle was found on its side, about 40 feet from the road. Smith said it appeared the vehicle hit a tree.

The vehicle was spotted and reported by a passing semitrailer driver who could see the undercarriage from his elevated position.

An account has been created at United Community Bank in Adarisville for donations to be made to the family. Cash and checks made payable to Quinton Ayers will be accepted during business hours at the bank, located near the intersection of Ga. 140 and U.S. 41.
