The Calhoun boys cross country team won their first ever Bartow-Gordon Middle School Athletic Association region championship recently.

The Jackets won a very tight region championship, which saw Woodland finish 2nd with 50 points, only one point behind Calhoun. Cartersville finished in third with 58 points. CMS 8th grader Jason Sosa finished his middle school career as the overall region champion with his first-place finish. Fellow 8th grader Esvin Garcia finished off his season with a second-place finish as the region runner-up. Eric Garcia, took a 10th-place finish. Seventh grader Devon Martinez had his best performance of the season with his 16th-place finish, and rounding out scoring for the Jackets was sixth-grader David Jones finishing 20th.

On the girl’s side, the Lady Jackets came home with a fourth-place finish at the region meet. The top finisher for the girls was seventh-grader Emily Driscoll, who finished in 6th place overall. Eighth-grader Meri Kathryn Black finished in ninth place. Pictured above are all the medal winners along with coach Brant Murry (left).

Congrats to CMS!

I frequently see articles in the times about county school's accomplishments with no mention of the city schools, and the stories are "liked" by many, and encouraging comments are frequently left. Publish one about the city and don't mention the county? Well that's just awful. Smh. Maybe the XC coaches at AMS and SMS didn't send their info to the times. Maybe it's about time for all residents of Gordon county to support each other instead of letting the chip on our shoulders get us ticked off. I hope all three of our middle school XC teams had great years, and congrats to every runner who bettered themselves by working hard every day.

By the way.....the Times probably didn't cover this meet or write this story. More than likely CMS's XC coach sent this story in. It isn't his responsibility to report for the other schools.

Ashworth and Sonoraville? Why no mention of the entire results? Calhoun girls came in 4th out of 8 schools....What about the other results, other county kids finishing in the top 20?

Come on, "staff report,"...You can do better than this. You represent ALL OF GORDON COUNTY, and not just a few kids....Show them all.

My wife graduated from Calhoun High, we've had kids graduate from Calhoun and Gordon Central, and have grandkids going to all 3 of the middle schools, so I'm not biased.

You need to be showing EVERYONE, however, and right is right.

Congratulations to the kids in the story. I've been to every Calhoun meet...However, where are the others representing the other two local middle schools?
