The Georgia Advanced Surgery Center for Women (GASC), Georgia’s first and only Joint Commission-accredited facility for performing all major and minor gynecological surgeries in a true, proven outpatient setting, has added Camelia Medders, R.N., to its staff as clinical manager.

In this position, Medders’ duties include evaluation and supervision of employees. She also ensures that all GASC procedures and services are in compliance with policies and regulations and that staff is up-to-date on certifications and licensing. Medders additionally acts as a circulating nurse, overseeing and helping as needed with patient admissions, in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), and with patient discharge.

A licensed registered nurse in both Texas and Georgia, Medders earned an Associate Degree in Nursing, in 1997. With more than 14 years of healthcare experience, she also holds certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Cardiac Life Support and Basic Life Support. In addition, she is a member of AORN (Association of periOperative Registered Nurses).

Medders recently relocated from Kentucky where she worked as both a Home Health RN Case Manager and an RN Case Manager for National Wounded Healing Corporation. She also served as an Ambulatory Surgical Center Staff Nurse, was promoted to Charge Nurse and then to Interim Nurse Manager, over five years, in Texas.

Medders, an Acworth resident who is bilingual in English and Spanish, says, “I am excited to join a surgery center that is the only one of its kind in Georgia, and one of only a few in the nation to have Center of Excellence designation by the AAGL.”

Opened in May 2010, the GASC boasts AAGL Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology “Commitment Level” designation by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the premier standards-setting organization for the surgical specialty. Located in Cartersville, Ga., the state-of-the-art, freestanding ambulatory facility specializes in highly advanced, laparoscopic and other minimally invasive surgical techniques.
