Calhoun Mayor Jimmy Palmer and Gordon County Board of Commissioners Chairperson Judy Bailey signed a proclamation for Delta Nu Epsilon Sigma Alpha that recognized the week of May 14 as Delta Nu Epsilon Sigma Alpha Week. They also signed a proclamation this week recognizing May 13 through May 19 as National Nursing Home Week.

Delta Nu

The proclamation states that the members of Delta Nu chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha are celebrating their first anniversary after being formally chartered on May 14.

Delta Nu members, in their first year of organization have provided many hours of personal service and raised funds in support of the following organizations: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Hope for Heroes, Blood Assurance, Georgia State Parks – New Echota, Gordon County Schools, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Easter Seals, Rett Syndrome, Ronald McDonald House, Big Brothers and Bid Sisters of Northwest Georgia, and the Alzheimer’s Association, according to the proclamation.

It also stated that Delta Nu members are using this first anniversary to reaffirm their commitment to continue to be active in their local community, in their state, in their action and in their world.

Nursing Home

In the proclamation it stated that there has been a dramatic increase in the number of Americans needing long term care, which will put new demands on nursing homes and those who provide nursing home care. It also stated that today’s nursing homes provide specialized services to both young and old, offering rehabilitation, sub acute, personal, hospice and respite care.

Members of the Georgia Nursing Home Association proudly sponsor National Nursing Home Week 2012, “Celebrating the Journey” and invite citizens of Georgia to visit nursing facilities to benefit the knowledge and experience of their staff, residents, family members and volunteers.

Palmer and Bailey issued a joint statement saying, “We urge all citizens to honor and support employees of long term care facilities who daily provide quality care to achieve the highest level of mental, physical and psychosocial well being to the residents of our facilities.

Gordon Health has designated each day with a different theme, which includes various activities and outings. Sunday, May 13, is Mother’s Day; Monday, May 14, is Hat Day; Tuesday, May 15, is Pirate Day; Wednesday, May 16, is Old Fashion Day; Thursday, May 17, is Sports Day; Friday, May 18, is Celebrating the Journey Day, and Saturday, May 19, will conclude the weeklong celebration and awareness campaign.
