The theme for the 2013 celebration was “Team Work Makes the Dream Work,” and was held Friendship Baptist Church.
“It was a great service, but it was smaller than it was last year,” Walter Harris said. Harris was the one in charge of putting the event together.
The event had an array of different celebrations including medleys, scripture, prayer, interpretive dance, singing and special speakers; Linda Hawkins performed the National Negro Anthem.
Speaking on the theme “Team Work Makes the Dream Work,” was Minister Cory Dixon, of Friendship Baptist Church; and Pastor Willie Floyd, of New Beginning Ministries Church of God in Christ.
“Carol Hatch, recording artist out of Dalton, and Patricia, who sung with the late Judge Marvin Boyles and Jermey Tutt, of Rome, did an amazing job singing, and blessed us with their voices,” Harris said.
The keynote speaker of the hour was Pastor and Author Dr. Christopher Bowen of the Living Tabernacle in Forest Park.
“Dr. Bowen did an amazing job as the keynote speaker, and I hope we can have him come up at another time,” Harris said.
After the spiritual ceremony everyone went to The Fork for the reception, where according to Harris, the staff treated everyone with so much kindness.
