I-75 crash result of following too closely, DUI

Update: According to the the Georgia State Patrol, the crash occured at 12:51 p.m. on I-75 at mile marker 311 southbound between a Harley Davidson motorcycle being operated by Samuel Howard Delk, age 49, from Crossville, Tenn., and a 1998 Plymouth Voyager van being driven by Brenda Jean Larkin, age 51 from Pikeville, Tenn. The van was pulling U-Haul trailer.

According to the trooper, the motorcycle was traveling south in the left lane and the van with trailer was in the middle lane. The motorcycle passed a witness vehicle and hit the rear of the trailer. Delk was ejected into the median and the motorcycle hit the guardrail.

Delk was airlifted to Erlanger for treatment. He has been charged with following too closely, DUI, possession of an open container and improper lane change. Additionally, both drivers were charged with no proof of insurance.

Update: According to Georgia State Patrol, the trooper received the call shortly before 1 p.m. to a crash involving a motorcycle and a truck on the southbound side near Old Fairmount Road. The motorcyclist was ejected and thrown into the median. The operator was airlifted for treatment. Calhoun Times will continue to update this story as news becomes available.

Previous story: According to E-911, Interstate 75 was shut down due to a motorcycle accident, but has now been reopened. No fatalities have yet to be reported.

The City Police is the worst ones I have seen.

The Mayor and city officials need to start paying closer attention to their employees driving skills.

I actually followed one and see him turn into a local eatery .

We apparently need a better alarm system, because we have police and fire turning on the blues and reds quite often, only to learn just after the traffic light that it was nothing after all. It'd be a shame if a camera (say one installed at an intersection) happened to catch this and someone misconstrue it as abuse of power.

No one is paying? Insulting. Reminds me of fisherman's body found at lake. He was ten feet tall and 700 pounds.

No "ifs". Consensus among six witnesses: lights& siren were on to run the red light.

Predictable results follow.

Two other curious abouts:

1) Why is the fire department using the HUGE warehouse across from Bernstein Park & CMS? Whose paying? Watched as fire truck driver turned on siren so as to not stop at the red light, then drive around the block and return to said warehouse and,

2) Why our [sic] leaders are letting the plants die on front lawn of GC administrative offices (across from Gem Theater). $500 of other peoples' money matters.

The Fire Dept is doing search and rescue night training. No one is paying. They are doing it on their normal shifts. If one of the trucks had his lights on for a short time it was probably a call that turned into a false alarm. As far the plants in front of the offices someone else will have to help you out with that one.

Fedupwithhoun, I have been curious about this as well. I know of the individual in question and I heard details about it from someone Saturday. Apparently she was having some hanky panky with teenaged boys and a parent over heard someone talking about it and reported her. They went to her place of work Friday afternoon and arrested her. Seems odd that the Calhoun Times hasn't done a story on this. It would be great timing for them to do a story on this sort of stuff, especially with all the media coverage of the Sandusky trial. There may even be more victims that would come forward.

Has nothing to do with the above story but,I am curious as to why nothing has been mentioned of the arrest of a local woman for Aggravated Child Molestation and 3 other felony charges all having to do with minors.
