A Gordon County man has been arrested for allegedly aiding a juvenile runaway.
On the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 20 the Gordon County Sheriff’s office received a report of a 16-year-old female juvenile who had run away from home.
Detectives investigating the case followed a number of leads regarding the girl’s whereabouts, but soon focused their investigation on a male acquaintance of the girl, Daniel Matthew Kennedy, 36 of Calhoun.
After contacting the man's employer, detectives discovered Kennedy had been absent from his job as a truck driver. With the help of tips from Kennedy’s known associates, detectives were able to intercept Kennedy and the girl at a retail store in neighboring Whitfield County.
Detectives conducted a surveillance of the store parking lot, and subsequently arrested Kennedy. The girl was also detained.
Detectives determined that the girl had tried to hide in a prefabricated outbuilding, and also that the pair had camped in a remote area in Floyd County.
Kennedy has been charged with Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and Obstructing/Hindering Law Enforcement Officers.
Kennedy posted bond and was released the following day. The girl was released to her parents and will appear in juvenile court at a later date.
