Gordon Central senior, George Christian was named one of 100 singers recognized by the Georgia Music Educators Association as “the best sight singers” in the state.

Gordon Central senior, George Christian spent three days in Savannah, Jan. 24-26 with 99 other Georgia high school musicians, singing through a collection of quality choral literature.

Selection for the 2013 Georgia Music Educators Association All-State Readers Chorus is based on a rigorous sight reading audition.

“George is a fantastic musician. He sings well, but more importantly, he reads and understands music better than most of the high school students in the state of Georgia. His selection to this prestigious choir is an honor and worthy of this young man,” said Kim Watters, director of choral activities at Gordon Central High School.

All-State Readers Chorus is an open audition for high school students, grades 9 -12. They must be nominated by their GMEA choral teacher and receive a top 25 score in the audition. The choir is composed of 25 singers on each of the four voice parts.

“George was one of 25 basses selected for the program and the only one from this area this year. We are very proud of his accomplishment,” said Watters.

George will attend the GMEA All-State Chorus event next month, along with students from every middle and high school in the area.

After high school, George plans to attend the University of Georgia and major in Finance. He does plan to continue singing in college. As the national music education theme this year states - “music lasts a lifetime.”
