Georgia legal associations say the 170-page proposal tops a relatively short agenda for the 2011 legislative session, which starts next week.
The measure aims to bring Georgia's rules of evidence code more in line with federal guidelines. They say Georgia is one of seven states that have not adopted the federal rules of evidence.
Attorneys' groups also hope to persuade budget writers not to slash the legal system's budget and reverse 2010 legislation that hiked court record fees from $1.50 a page to $10 a page.
