Gordon Hospital Foundation officials are finalizing plans for the 6th Annual Tennis Tournament set for April 22 through April 30. The week-long tournament will be held at the City of Calhoun Tennis Complex in partnership with the Sequoyah Tennis Association and the City of Calhoun. Mohawk is the event’s title sponsor.

“This tournament is becoming one of the most anticipated sporting events of the spring,” says Judy Jackson, development director for Gordon Hospital. “We are very excited about our 6th annual event and look forward to all of our local and regional players signing up to play.”

The event, a Round Robin Doubles Event, is open to all men, women and juniors. Players will be classified as advanced, intermediate, and beginner. The cost of the tournament is $50 per adult division participant and $25 per junior division participant.

There will be a $10 additional fee to participate in a second adult division event. The entry fee includes a t-shirt.

All proceeds raised from the event will be donated to the new Radiation Therapy Center at Gordon Hospital. “We want to thank Mohawk for being our title sponsor for this event,” says Jackson. “Their partnership goes a long way in helping us complete this very worthwhile project. Currently, many of our residents have to travel out of town to receive this type of cancer treatment, so we are excited to bring this state-of-the-art center to Gordon County.”

The center is currently under construction on the campus of Gordon Hospital and is expected to be completed this fall.

Interested persons wishing to sign-up for the tournament may do so at calhountennis.net or email statournaments@yahoo.com or they may pick up an application at Gordon Hospital’s information desk. Because this event is a fundraiser, the event will not be rescheduled due to rain. “Please come out and play,” says Jackson. “Not only will you have a great time, but you’ll be helping to provide a much needed medical service right here in our very own community.”
