And the beat goes on.

Calhoun’s own GEM Theatre will host a summer music series with a myriad of tunes for the whole family. From the sounds of Nashville, with such talent as Confederate Railroad to acoustic aficionado Jason Isbell to bluegrass beauty Sierra Hull, this summer will keep Gordon County swaying to the music.

Sierra Hull and Highway 111 will kick off the series Saturday, June 16, at 7:30 p.m.

According to the GEM Theatre press release, Hull is one of the youngest, most respected bluegrass artists, and the first bluegrass musician to receive Berklee College of Music’s presidential scholarship. She has also performed on stage with Alison Krauss at the Grand Ole Opry when she was only 11-years-old. Hull’s debut album, “Secrets,” was released in 2008. Tickets for this concert are on sale starting at $15.

Taking the stage Friday, June 29, at 8 p.m., is country-favorite Confederate Railroad.

This down home band marries rowdy country with raw emotion, and covers a wide range of human feelings, according to the press release for the event.

Some of their classic songs include, “Trashy Women” and “Jesus and Mama.”

Lead singer Danny Shirley, drummer Mark Dufresne, bass player Wayne Secrest, lead guitarist Rusty Hendrix and keyboard and vocalist Cody McCarver greet fans, sign autographs and poses for photos, after each concert.

Tickets for this are on sale now. Prices are $30 and $25.

Putting a cap to the summer series is Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit.

Isbell has been serenading the South since 2001, and until 2007 he was a member of the rock band, “Drive By Truckers,” according to the press release. He released his first solo album, “Sirens of the Ditch,” the same year.

In 2009, Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit, released their first album, and in 2011 they released their second album, “Here We Rest.”

According to the press release, the group produced and recorded the album on their own. Tickets for this concert begin at $20.

“The summer concert series will continue the Friends of the GEM’s mission of providing residents a variety of entertainment, as well as, attracting visitors to the community,” said Sarah Husser with Friends of the GEM. “This will result in a positive economic impact for Calhoun and Gordon County.”

According to Sarah Husser, of the GEM Theatre, the summer series will conclude with Elvis Celebration Week, which will feature classic Elvis movies and a concert Saturday, August 25. The concert will see award winning Elvis tribute artist Stephen Freeman on the stage.

Freeman has opened for Charlie Daniels, and has won various Elvis contests and has been recognized by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., as the Elvis Tribute Artist Fan Vote poll winner.

Concert tickets range from $15 to $30 and are on sale now.

The GEM box office is open Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
