This pig bale, located outside the Calhoun Depot is only one of many other hay bales located around Downtown Calhoun in preparation for the annual Farm City celebration. The bales were donated in support of the event and Gordon County Young Farmer studentrs helped decorate the bales.
Gordon County Young Farmers are partnering with Downtown Calhoun to host the annual Farm City Week.
In an effort to promote agriculture through a farm, city relationship, Gordon County, Calhoun, plan to acknowledge Nov. 16-22, National Farm-City Week.
The week will be filled with events, hosted by the Young Farmers, and will include city and farm tours for visitors to visit local businesses and farms in the Gordon County area. Also, competitions will take place, such as a chili cookoff, and baking contest.
The celebratory week will also feature animals, baked goods, BBQ, crafts, tractor rides, and awards for both cooking competitions.
All events will be sponsored by Downtown Calhoun and Gordon County Young Farmers. Vendors are encouraged to sign up today to participate in the annual event.
Rounding out the week, Wednesday, Nov. 21, everyone is encouraged to attend the Community Thanksgiving Worship Service and Soup at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Christmas tree lighting in the park at 6:30 p.m.
To conclude the national celebration everyone is invited to attend a downtown tree lighting and Santa Express in downtown Calhoun on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m.
The hay bales seen around town resembling farm animals were donated by Kevin Smith and Phil Roland, and those responsible for decorating were Carol Peach, Beth Fox, Kevin Smith, Trish Williams and the Gordon Central and Sonoraville High School members of the Gordon County Young Farmers Club.
