It's been a season of disappointing occurrences for the Sonoraville, but with two games to play, the Phoenix are still looking to end the season on a positive note.

Sonoraville hosts Cartersville for Senior Night, the top team in the Region 5-AAA, on Friday night as they look to turn things around.

The Phoenix (1-7, 0-5) come into the game having lost their last five. The latest was against Gordon County rival Gordon Central last Friday when they fell 59-18 at Ratner Stadium.

Sonoraville had little go their way in that matchup which has been the story of the season. The Phoenix have battled constant obstacles, including double-digit injuries to key guys. One of the few bright spots against the Warriors was the play of running back Jackson Murray who had 90 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown.

Cartersville (8-0, 5-0), who are ranked in the top 10 in the state in several polls, come into the game riding high after wins over Adairsville and Gordon Central in the last two weeks.

With a win against Sonoraville, they would clinch the region title.

The Phoenix would love nothing more than to play spoiler against the Canes, especially on a night when they honor their 15 seniors.

Prediction:

The Phoenix have had a very rough season to this point. Inconsistent play along with numerous injuries have made it impossible for them to get any momentum going.

Cartersville is a very talented and disciplined team that could make a deep run in the Class AAA state playoffs.

The Phoenix could be in for a long night at home.

Score:

Cartersville 35, Sonoraville 7
