Each year Family Savings FCU awards merit scholarships to graduating High School Seniors. The scholarship funds are raised each fall at a golf tournament hosted by Family Savings. For the 2012 school year, FSFCU was able to award six $1,000 scholarships to be used toward academic expenses at the student’s chosen college.

The Scholarship has been named the C. V. Glassco Memorial Scholarship in memory of Mr. C. V. Glassco of Gadsden, AL. Before retiring in 2004, Mr. Glassco served FSFCU as a volunteer on the Board of Directors for over 35 years, with 22 of those as the Chairman. He also served on Boards of Directors such as the United Way of Etowah County, Boys and Girls Club and Boy Scouts of America Mr. Glassco passed away in 2008 after an extended illness.

Andrew Bruce Norman – Rockmart High School

Morgan Creswell – Sonoraville High School

Jamie Spraggins – Gaston High School

Deanne Rose Rousseau – Paint Rock Valley High School

Donald Floyd Irwin III – Glencoe High School

The students were required to send a copy of their high school transcript, 3 letters of recommendation, a statement of their goals and a student resume. The recipients were chosen based heavily on extracurricular activities, community involvement and academic performance. This year, over 200 applications were received from Georgia and Alabama.
