The Calhoun Police Department has been awarded a grant of $8,000 from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for the purchase of an Intoxilyzer 9000. The I9000 will be replacing the I5000 which will be decommissioned in 2015. The GOHS rewards proactive law enforcement agencies with grants to improve technologies and departmental capabilities through grants such as this. The CPD has been very aggressive in its traffic enforcement program, and as a result, has seen dramatic reductions of serious injury or fatality involved accidents in Calhoun. The Department has been and will continue to be involved in State and Federal traffic safety efforts such as “Click it, or Ticket”, “100 Days of Summer Heat”, “Operation Zero Tolerance”, and various DUI enforcement campaigns. The CPD actively pursues grants such as this to defray operational costs and reduce burdens on the taxpayer.

DOVER, Del. (AP) — Dover police say a Georgia man tried to flush nearly three kilograms of PCP when he was found at a vacant property. Police announced Tuesday that officers called to a home on Heritage Drive on Sunday found 32-year-old Eljer Ingram of Augusta, Ga., and four other people. Capt. Tim Stump says Ingram tried to flush 2,984 grams of the drug mixture down a toilet, but failed. Ingram is charged with possession of a large amount of PCP, trespassing, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. Stump says the four other people found at the property were also charged with trespassing. Ingram is being held at Vaughn Correctional Center on more than $50,000 secured bond.
