Gordon County is once again set to receive stimulus dollars that will help fund a local transportation project.

During their Nov. 17 regular meeting, the Gordon County Commissioners approved a motion to accept the funds of more than $20,000 that would go toward purchasing software for the 5311 Transportation Program.

The federal stimulus funds would not require a match from the county, according to County Administrator Randy Dowling.

Currently, Gordon County has three 5311 busses that run throughout the county; they are part of a Federal Transit Authority program that provided buses to rural areas.

The program is available to state agencies, local public bodies, non-profit organizations, Indian Tribes and groups, and private operators of public transportation services under contract to local public bodies, according to the FTA.

These stimulus dollars, which are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act federal stimulus package, are one of several federal boosts Gordon County has received. Earlier this month Gov. Sonny Perdue approved two federal grants, one for the resurfacing of part of Craigtown Road in the amount of $248,438 and one for Newtown Church Road, $139,301.

Also during the Nov. 17 the meeting, the commission:

- Approved the submittal of a letter of intent for Federal Assistance to be used in the Resaca Battle-field preservation.
