The local Voluntary Action Center (VAC) recently honored all volunteers for making the non-profit center’s newly built community kitchen a success, and is now feeding more Gordon County citizens than ever before, serving over 1,000 meals a day, according to Executive Director for the VAC Stacy Long.

“Now we have more people eating because we are not bound by limitations on type of food we can serve. We are no longer serving out of crock pots, and can provide a whole range of menu items,” said Long. “We are looking for those numbers to increase because kids are out of school now so our numbers will go up for the summer months.”

According to Long, the community kitchen is 100 percent operational because of the citizens of Gordon County, but though the VAC is constantly stockpiling its resources as they are received, such as paper plates, cups, utensils, paper towels, etc.

To keep the community informed, the VAC’s board members have erected a sign in front of the buildings displaying the VAC’s “Need of the Week.”

The sign will display needs such as sugar, tea, or any other product to help the VAC continue to provide for the less fortunate in Gordon County.

“We are very appreciative for the community’s generosity, because that shows commitment, care and concern Gordon County has for members in need,” said Long.
