College football: Frix, McGowan contribute in Georgia win vs. Ole Miss

Several former local football stars from Calhoun, Gordon Central and Sonoraville have moved on to play at the college level. Each week, the Calhoun Times will recap how those former local players did in their respective games.

Listed below are the players that appeared in the box score from their teams’ games in Week 10 of the college season:

Rhett McGowan, Georgia, Calhoun alum

McGowan had two catches for 26 yards on Saturday in Georgia’s 37-10 win over Ole Miss in Athens. He also had four fair catches on punt return duty.

Ty Frix, Georgia, Calhoun alum

Frix recorded a tackle on punt coverage as well as handling all the snapping duties for the Bulldogs on Saturday. He also helped kicker Marshall Morgan go 5-for-5 on extra points.

Mason Strickland, Shorter, Calhoun alum

Strickland had one solo tackle and three assists for a total of four in Shorter’s 24-20 upset win over West Georgia. He also recorded a pass breakup.

Josh White, Shorter, Calhoun alum

White had a busy day at his linebacker position, recording two solo tackles and five assists for a total of seven in Shorter’s win at West Georgia.

Nash Nance, Hampden-Sydney, Calhoun alum

Nance finished with 262 yards and one TD on 24-of-38 passing in the Tigers’ 45-42 loss to Washington and Lee in four overtimes. He also had 28 yards and a touchdown on the ground and a 57 yard punt.

Da’Rick Rogers, Tennessee Tech, Calhoun alum

Rogers returned to action after an injury and had five catches for 49 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown catch in the Golden Eagles’ 31-24 loss to Eastern Illinois.

Adam Urbano, Tennessee Tech, Calhoun alum

Urbano had seven yards rushing and five yards receiving in Tennessee Tech’s 31-24 loss to Eastern Illinois on Saturday.

Tyler Thacker, University of the Cumberlands, Sonoraville alum

Thacker, the starting center for the Patriots, helped his team run for 228 yards and throw for 188 in Cumberlands’ 26-15 win over Kentucky Christian on Saturday. The Patriots’ wrapped up a 9-1 regular season with the win.
