Several former local football stars from Calhoun, Gordon Central and Sonoraville have moved on to play at the college level. Each week, the Calhoun Times will recap how those former local players did in their respective games. Listed below are the players that appeared in the box score from their teams’ games in Week 6 of the college season:

Tyler Thacker, Univ. of the Cumberlands, Sonoraville alum

Thacker, the starting center for the Patriots, helped pave the way for a big day on the ground in a 31-27 win at Faulkner. Cumberlands ran for 329 yards on 55 carries behind the blocking of the offensive line.

Ty Frix, Georgia,

Calhoun alum

Frix handled all snapping duties on the PAT and punt teams, helping kicker Marshall Morgan go 1-for-1 on extra points and punter Collin Barber average 41.3 yards on seven punts in the Bulldogs tough 35-7 loss to South Carolina.

Rhett McGowan, Georgia,

Calhoun alum

McGowan handled punt return duties for the Bulldogs in their loss to South Carolina, but didn’t get a chance at a return, calling for fair catches on all four opportunities.

Mason Strickland, Shorter,

Calhoun alum

Strickland had four solo tackles in the Hawks 35-13 win over Point University on Saturday at Barron Stadium.

Nash Nance, Hampden-Sydney, Calhoun alum

Nance helped his team to a 24-7 win over Bridgewater College on Saturday, passing for 291 yards and two TDs on 23-of-32 attempts. He also had a 41-yard punt as the Tigers ended a two-game losing streak.

Tre Lamb, Tennessee Tech,

Calhoun alum

Lamb passed for 171 yards on 12-of-33 attempts and ran for 41 yards and a TD as the Golden Eagles fell at home to Jacksonville State, 37-28.

Da’Rick Rogers, Tennessee Tech, Calhoun alum

Rogers was the Golden Eagles’ leading receiver in their loss to Jacksonville state, catching five passes for 78 yards.

Deshawn (Cicerio) Printup,

Savannah State, Calhoun alum

Printup had one tackle in Savannah State’s loss to Morgan State on Saturday.

NOTE: If we left out a former local player that made an impact for his team this past Saturday, please send that player’s name, school, year and position to Sports Editor Alex Farrer at afarrer@calhountimes.com.
