WALESKA — Reinhardt University senior softball pitcher has been named Appalachian Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week. The announcement was made by the conference office in Asheville, N.C., Monday afternoon.

Monroe was phenomenal during the Lady Eagles’ recent road trip. Monroe went 4-0 on the week, allowing just one earned run in 27 innings. The Calhoun native had three consecutive shutouts on three consecutive days.

Last Tuesday against Warner, Monroe allowed just three hits while fanning six batters in a six-inning, 8-0, shutout. The next day against Webber International, Monroe struck out 10 batters while walking a pair and giving up four hits in a, 6-0, win over the Warriors, who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25.

Last Thursday, Monroe capped her Florida swing when she gave up three hits and two walks while punching out eight batters in a, 6-0, win over Southeastern. In Saturday’s AAC opener against St. Andrews, Monroe allowed one earned run on two hits in picking up her 10th victory of the season.

“I expect for Maddie to have outings like she had every time she steps foot in the circle,” said RU head coach Glen Crawford.

“We’re always grateful every time she receives an honor from the conference, and we hope that this is the first of many accolades she gets her senior season.”
