Two former Calhoun Yellow Jackets had memorable afternoons on Saturday when Georgia defeated rival Georgia Tech, 42-10, in Athens. Georgia long-snapper Ty Frix was one of 21 Bulldog seniors honored before the game. Frix was also selected as one of four captains for the coin toss before the game. The picture above is of Frix (left) along with fellow senior captains Tavarres King (from left), Shawn Williams and Sanders Commings walking to midfield for the coin toss.
Former Calhoun receiver Rhett McGowan, a redshirt junior, also had a special day in the win. McGowan caught two passes for 18 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Aaron Murray in the second quarter.
The win over the Jackets was the fourth straight in the series for the Bulldogs and the 11th out of the last 12 times the two have played.
Georgia kept alive hopes of a national title with the win as well. They will face Alabama in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Georgia Dome with the winner most likely headed to play Notre Dame in the BCS Championship Game on Jan. 7 in Miami.
