US News & World Report magazine has ranked Calhoun High School No. 37 in the state for academic excellence.

The report only ranked the top 38 schools, but has the statistics for over 400 high schools in Georgia. It also has Calhoun High School ranked as 1,831 in the United States. This makes Calhoun High School a “Silver Award Winner.”

Calhoun City Schools Superintendent Michele Taylor was excited to learn of the ranking.

“We are very proud of our teachers for setting high expectations and challenging our students,” said Taylor. “We are so fortunate to have teachers who are committed to excellence and the success of each and every student; Calhoun High School is the best of the best.”

The list is based on a ratio of students and teachers, college readiness and Math and English proficiency.

According to the US News & World Report listing CHS has a 15:1 ratio between teachers and students. CHS was given an 18.4 on college readiness, which is based on number of students who took the AP exam and the number of students who passed.

CHS was also 3.5 points above the Georgia average in Math and English based on the state exit exam, with 94 percent proficient in Math and 92 percent proficient in English, according to the list.

“To be recognized as Best School is a tremendous honor. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, parents, and teachers,” said Dr. Greg Green, principal of CHS. “While this is a great honor our daily challenge is to improve on ways to help our students achieve their goals and realize their full potential.”

CHS ranked 37th horse in the glue factory.

Is superintendent Taylor excited and principal Green honored with less than 5 out of 100 CHS students being college ready, too?
