CPD find violations during safety check

On Saturday June 16, 2012, the Calhoun Police Department participated in a Governor’s

Office of Highway Safety check. The Police Department had officers at the Southbound I-75 exits at Highway 156 and Highway 53 for safety checks.

During the checkpoint at 11:45 p.m. on Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday the Calhoun Police

encountered the following violations, resulting in the following charges:

Driving Under the Influence – 3 counts

Suspended License – 1 count

No Insurance – 1 count

Seatbelt violations – 3 counts

Child Restraint violations – 3 counts

Other Traffic violations – 9 counts

Possession of Marijuana – 3 arrests

Possession of Methamphetamine – 1 arrest

The goal of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and Law Enforcements is to make

our highways safe for all law abiding citizens.

outspoken – Newsflash! People have been deciding for themselves which laws they are willing to abide by since time and memorial. The tax code, speed limits and any number of controlled substances come to mind. They simply weigh the risk versus the reward and proceed accordingly. It’s the American way!

Morn – And the left is the bastion of freedom and personal liberty??? ALL ABOARD!!! HAHAHAHAHA....

When police are more worried about me wearing a seat belt, or not having my insurance papers in the vehicle when they can run a computer check to verify that I have insurance, than they are those soccer moms doing 70 through a school zone or through downtown there is a major problem in priorities. This is how facist states are born and we are already close enough to being one thanks to the tea bags. A seat belt violation hurts no one but the person unrestrained if they have a wreck so why is the law even on the books? Oh yeah, the republican god reagan blackmailed the states by threatening to withhold federal highway funds if they didnt pass seatbealt laws. Yet another example of the far rights intrusion into our lives along with teh patriot act.

our highways safe for all law abiding citizens.

I would feel ALOT safer if all this manpower was protecting me from prowlers and home invaders patroling my neighborhood rather than spending 2hr and 15 min catching 1 serious offender and 3 DUI's. I can imagine the child restraint violations at that time of night were for kids asleep?

All I can say is it is a sad day in America when you see a bluelight and have to worry if your "papers" are in order! Those who forget history are condemed to repeat it!

The way I see it is they were protecting me while I was driving on the highway...... they got a couple DUI's that means I wasnt hit by a drunk driver ..... thats protecting me. As far the the children not restrained that was protecting the child(ren) from being hurt had the driver gotten in an accident. I find it funny how people have started deciding which laws are ok to break and which ones are not ok to break

@ outspoken, you have your opinion I have mine. Setting up a roadblock to "check papers" of citizens is not my idea of a FREE america. Those people may have been DUI, and should not have been. Is it worth giving up everyone else's rights to catch them? As for the children, you have to make decisions when you are a parent. Is it worth letting your child lay down and sleep on a long trip into the night or be restrained? That is a PARENTS decision, not the states. Just like seat belts, why does the governemt have the right to protect me against my will and then fine me for disagreeing? The TRUTH is, the seat belt law is a mechinism to allow them to stop you and again, "check your papers". Find someone who lived in Berlin in the 1930's. Ask them how it started.
