One hundred twenty five Calhoun Middle School students completed the Dewey Decathlon Challenge, a program sponsored by the CMS media center that helps support the Georgia Performance Standard of reading approximately one million words per year (about 25 books) in a variety of genres.

Students completing the challenge read from 10 different areas in the media center collection, including fiction, non-fiction, e-books, newspapers and magazines.

Students completing the challenge earned a Dewey Decathlon T-shirt, placed their handprint on the media center wall, and rewards from the school store, and they also attended a tie dye party where students tie dyed their Dewey Decathlon shirts.
