Tolbert Elementary recently accepted a donation from Greenscapes of rubber mulch for the playground. Ashworth Middle School students lent a helping hand working during their community helper day spreading the donated mulch for Tolbert.

Memorial Day in Gordon County

  • The Fairmount City Library will be in Tate Park at the 4th Annual Fairmount Untied Way Memorial Day Festival from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Monday, May 27 from taking registrations for the upcoming Summer Reading Program. There will used books for sale at very good prices. See you there. The Library will be closed that day. Call 706-337-3110 for more information.
  • For the fourth year, United Way of Gordon County and the City of Fairmount will hold the Fairmount United Memorial Day Festival and 5-K Run on the Tate Square in Downtown Fair-mount. Registration for the run/walk will begin at 7:30 a.m. The presentation of colors will be at 8:45 a.m. The run will begin at 9 a.m. The festival starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. with DJ Roberts providing music all day. Pro Wrestling, the mechanical bull, food and craft vendors, and children’s activities will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Cherokee Promenadors will be performing, and there will also be a car show. At 1:30 p.m. there will be recognition of veterans.
  • The American Legion Post 47 will have a Memorial Day Service at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27 at the post with hot dogs and hamburger following the service.
  • Memorial Day bluegrass festival will start at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27 at the Oostanaula School Community Club. There will be music from groups from Alabama and Georgia with one all ladies group, the Merrie Maids. The club members will begin serving home cooked meals at 11 a.m. along with barbecue, hamburgers, hot dogs and cold drinks. Come out and enjoy a whole day of good music and fun.     Congrats to all the graduates. Now time to get a job. I know that technology companies are planning to hire more people in the next six months as many key positions continue to remain vacant due to shortage of skilled IT professionals.
