National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest hands-on volunteer event for public lands. This year the date is set for Saturday, September 29th. Friends groups, nonprofits, public land managers, scout troops, student organizations and anyone interested in outdoor volunteerism around the state will be hosting events for National Public Lands Day. Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites is very proud and excited to announce that on National Public Lands Day, September 29, 2012 they will sponsor a Free Day at all Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites! All the properties managed by the Parks & Historic Sites Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will be open free to the public, all day! In addition to free admission and parking, New Echota will be hosting service projects. Not only will you be able to get in for free, you'll have the opportunity to give a little back to one of Georgia's most important treasures! If you or your group is interested in volunteering at New Echota on Sept 29, please contact Site Manager, David Gomez at 706-624-1321 or david.gomez@gadnr.org
